What are the Society's Objectives?
The collection, acquisition and preservation of all material relevant to the history of the Shire. This includes original research, the collection of physical objects, audio and film material, books, maps and manuscripts and the collection of oral histories.
To encourage and foster an interest in the development of the Shire with particular regard to its Aboriginal heritage, natural beauty and character and the preservation of its historic associations, buildings and industrial heritage.

The dissemination of historical information to members and the wider community by way of lectures, exhibitions, discussions, publications and excursions.

How the objectives are achieved

Lectures on selected subjects are given at monthly meetings and the agenda is published in the quarterly Bulletin. Talks are usually supported by audio-visual aids and/or displays of objects.

Collections are housed in the Museum which is open on the first Saturday of each month between 10 am and 3 pm. The Museum is located in East Street Sutherland (opposite Sutherland Railway Station).

Public displays of historical interest for occasions including Australia Day and Heritage week.

The Society is affiliated with the Royal Australian Historical Society, the National Trust (NSW) Branch, the Society of Australian Genealogists and Sutherland SHire Council.
